Online Information for Backpackers about OXFORD!

When you think Oxford, you think books and boats - a student centric city famous for its schools and academia, and some say the capital of colleges. But be warned, whilst it works hard, it plays even harder, from music at the Carling Academy to matches at the Kasam stadium.

Oxford might be old school, rooted in lectures and literature, but lately it’s been doing its best to shed its stuffy stereotypes. In fact it’s quite literally stripped bare - whether it’s Godiva galloping down the streets for a film premiere, or Jamie Oliver cooking up some naked nosh.

There’s plenty to see and do, from art at the Ashmolean to classic architecture that the city is home to. If historical hotspots are more your thing, haunts like Oxford Castle allow you to spend the night kipping in a cell or banged up in a bedroom.

the naked chef

You’ve been punting, paraded the shops, and held prisoner - you’re probably just about ready for some pukka pasta! If you’re looking for some gourmet grub, but you’re on a bit of a budget then get yourself down to George Street for some cheap, culinary delights - courtesy of Jamie Oliver. The Sainsbury’s front man has put school dinners on the back burner for a bit of La Dolce Vita. His new rustic style restaurant is coming to Oxford in May and the cockney chef is cooking up a storm with the first of several chains due to open across the country, specialising in inexpensive Italian food.

In fact, news of the Naked Chef’s plans have already caused quite a stir. Jamie’s Italian is ideal for a spot of spaghetti amongst the dreaming spires or catching a quick bite of cushty cuisine before your bus tour or trip to the theatre.
