Falmouth's past is rife with legends of pirates and cannibals, but time has transformed this seaside town from a smugglers den to a bustling yet picturesque coastal resort. Like the rest of Cornwall, Falmouth enjoys a much warmer and more pleasant climate than the rest of the UK. This, coupled with its excellent beaches, has led to the development of several water sports centres, with a particular focus on sailing and diving. The town centre is compact enough to explore easily on foot and houses many interesting specialist shops. Plenty of cafés and restaurants can be found, as well as pubs serving up award-winning beers on tap. Pleasure boats and passenger ferries are always available if youd like to see the sights from the water. Or ask for maps and advice at the tourist information centre if youd prefer to plan your own route for the day. by Cat Hackforth MISS PEAPOD'S KITCHEN CAFE During the day, Miss Peapods Kitchen Café is a cosy, friendly eaterie with a heart of gold.
