| Chester is a wonderful city with a rich heritage. From Ancient Roman Walls to Norman Cathedrals to the distinctive black and white timber of Victorian Britain. The architecture is all the more endearing for the fact it's right there in the heart of the city. You dont need to make a special trip to a specific landmark the Roman Walls encircle the city, the Victorian timber adorns the shopping centre as well as the Backpackers Hostel. You cannot avoid the history of the place! The other unavoidable feature of Chesters heart is the River Dee. This could be described as Chesters main artery, a regatta of riverside bars and cafés, boat cruises and alfresco art. What better way to enjoy the summer sun than on the river banks theres even live entertainment at the bandstand throughout the summer, themed night cruises, and barbeques at the Red House Pub. And, if all that wasnt enough for you, the Chester Summer Music Festival runs for a week from the 19th-25th July. Head on over for summer time fun! by Luke Bell Things to do: - Roman Amphitheatre: Built around 86AD, this amphitheatre held an estimated 7,000 spectators in its day. Located beside the Roman fort of Deva it served as an entertainment centre and training ground for the troops of the 20th Legion stationed at the fort.
- City Walls: The Walls form almost a 2 mile (3km) circuit around the city centre. Follow it around and see many of the city's key heritage sites along the way.
- Chester Zoo: Set in 110 acres of landscaped gardens, 2 miles north of Chester.
