In the South East of England sits a city of art, culture and history. The eminent Canterbury Cathedral can be found at the citys heart. Besides being the mother church of the Anglican Communion and seat of the Archbishop (i.e. of huge religious importance!) the Cathedral is a wonderful building that never fails to inspire. Hence why it is one of the most visited places in the country. We mustnt let the Cathedral steal all the glory however. There is an abundance of historic, grand architecture in Canterbury with St. Augustines Abbey, Norman Castle, Reculver Towers and the Roman Fort, to mention just a few. The architecture and history gives Canterbury its bohemian mood. The evenings are adorned with theatre goers, open-air concerts, wine bars and restaurants. You cannot help but desire to aimlessly stroll around this beautiful city, absorbing the cultured air. by Luke Bell For event listings (and there are many), www.canterbury.co.uk gives a comprehensive schedule. The Blue Rhythm Kings play a monthly gig at various venues and are well worth checking out. Kent Beer Festival takes place from the 17th-19th July. Also, Herne Bay Festival is a great event offering ten days worth of live music and street entertainment. |
