| A charming and often overlooked city, Plymouth lies on the western brink of Dartmoor. Neglected in the past, it is definitely finding its feet now. Key events this spring include the Lord Mayor’s Day on May 22nd and the Barbican Jazz and Blues Festival from 1st–9th May. Why not join in the Sports Relief Mile run on 21st March? Arts centres, theatres, galleries, music and a range of sporting venues, like the Mount Batten Centre at Bovisands, are all easily accessible. A sumptuous new shopping centre, Drake’s Circus, augments the city centre, whilst the cobbled streets and ancient buildings of the Barbican conjure memories of the city’s seafaring past. Take a tour of the Plymouth Gin distillery and sup at the famous Cap’n Jaspers! You’ll never forget it. Like the Beatles during their Magical Mystery Tour, look out across Plymouth Sound from the Hoe. The air is crisp, the view magnificent – a truly moving sight for any traveller. by Karen Stokes | |
