HELSTON Helston is a busy market town with a lot to offer. Every May, the town transforms into a colourful carnival ‘The Floral Dance’ which attracts thousands of visitors. There is a wealth of architecture to discover - check out The Monument built in 1834 and get yourself some Spingo (locally brewed beer) at 15th century tavern The Blue Anchor. Nature lover? On Helston’s doorstep lies some of the most beautiful countryside in Cornwall and if surfing’s your thing then head towards Penzance for Praa Sands with its mile of sandy beach. PENZANCE Penzance has no shortage of places to sit and while away the hours over a traditional cream tea, but for those of you who prefer the sights and the sounds to the tastes and treats, there are plenty of places to visit. Harbouring one of Britain’s most beautiful shores, the coastal walks provide postcard worthy views, one of which is St Michael’s Mount, a rockery standing tall within the crystal tides. Amongst the rolling cliffs, hidden coves and sandy beaches, there is an abundance of hostels and the night life isn’t bad either! 27 bars and pubs make it a perfect place for painting the town red. And if all the sight-seeing and sun bathing gets you hungry, there are plenty of places on the harbour for a traditional English fish and chips! by Eleanor Skillen |
