Newcastle is synonymous with the beautiful river Tyne and the art of partying. In fact, this fun loving city is so infamous for a night out that it was crowned the eighth best party town in the world just a few short years ago. The locals (known affectionately as Geordies) are also arguably the most friendly and hospitable in the whole of Britain. Boasting floating nightclubs on the Tyne and the renowned Chinese village in Stowell Street, Newcastle is a city that celebrates diversity. This is reflected in the assortment of premium continental restaurants and international retail centres. The dramatic bridges over the Tyne provide a spectacular backdrop for a Kodak moment, day or night, and the culture vulture in you will be suitably spoiled with gorgeous architecture, theatres, and art galleries in abundance. Among them are the delightful ‘Theatre Royal’, the stunning ‘Angel of the North’ monument, and lesser known scenic gems like ‘King Edward’s Bay’ in Tynemouth. Important events to note are the ‘The Newcastle Science Fest’ which returns in March and ‘The Newcastle Beer Festival’ in April…however, attending both in the same day is not recommended! Unless you are vigilant and intend on learning about Darwin first. by John Tinney |
