| One of the first things you will notice about Bath, England's most beautiful of cities, is its architecture's genteel splendour. Don't miss the medieval Bath Abbey in the centre of town, and if you can afford the entry fee, the Roman Baths are well worth a look. It may stretch the budget, but if you only see one Roman attraction in England, the Baths should be it. There is much more to Bath than the Baths however, and you can easily spend a day wandering through dozens of specialty shops, including gourmet food shops and fashion and gift boutiques. Be sure to indulge in foodie treats such as Ben's Cookies (scrumptious and freshly baked) and Sally Lunn's buns (England's answer to the brioche). If high tea is your thing, visit the gorgeous Pump Room and imagine yourself in a 'Jane Austen inspired' world of romance. Being a university town, the presence of a large body of undergraduates guarantees a lively nightlife. Live music, groovy bars and plenty of live comedy are all features of the Bath night life. by Lisa Le Faucheur | | |
